The working principle of solar panels is basically to transform the light energy coming from the sun into the useful electrical energy which is consumed by the various electrical appliances. The solar panel comprises many PV (Photovoltaic cells) made up of crystalline semiconductor material most often silicon(si). Silicon is chosen to be the perfect material because it can easily conduct electricity while at the same time it also maintains the electrical imbalance necessarily used to generate the electric field. The cells of the panel comprise both positively and negatively charged semiconductors which are sandwiched together to generate an electric field.

Basic steps can be explained as follows:

  1. 1. When the light energy in the form of photons strikes the surface of the solar panel photo-voltaic cells, it gets absorbed by the cell and releases the free electrons.
  2. 2. These free electrons in the semiconductor material gain the energy and are free to move around carrying an electric current which creates the electric field.
  3. 3. The cells of the solar panel comprises both positively and negatively charged semiconductors which are sandwiched together to create an electric field.
  4. 4. This electric field develops and applies force to drift the electrons in a particular direction towards the conducting plates. This flow of free electrons gives rise to electric current.
  5. 5. This generated electric currents then flows to the solar panel edges and hence to the conducting wires.
  6. 6. The conducting wires then bring the current to the inverters for the transformation purpose.
  7. 7. The inverter converts the dc current generated by the solar panel cell into the ac current required by the power different power consuming appliances.
